It was because of them that I am what I am now.
I remember.. how they provide me with home tuition. They found traveling to tuition classes in town or to the neighbourhood areas time consuming and inconvenient. The trouble we had finding a good teacher.. *sigh*
I even sacked a couple of Mathematics and Physics tutors as they were not knowledgeable and couldn’t answer my questions. They also didn’t know how to teach. They would not settle down until I find a good tutor.
As the BM paper was important for the Form 5 examination and GP paper was important for the Form 6 examination, they looked for the best.
For the BM tuition, appa found out from somebody who had lost the contact number, but claimed she was good. The only thing they could recall is that her husband is a Doctor in Shah Alam and the clinic name. Appa hunted for the clinic and asked him for the number. Phew!
Then I started the BM all the way in Subang Jaya (from Shah Alam). Appa would send me there before his afternoon shift and amma would fetch me after work. Luckily, her car pooling friend didn’t mind making a short stop in Subang Jaya, waiting for me to finish my BM tuition class and head back to Shah Alam.
For my GP tuition, I attended the famous Kasturi Tuition Center. If appa was working, I would go by bus. But if he was not working, he would wait for me right in front of the tuition center just in time, so that I don’t waste any time waiting for him.
But how could I forget my basics.. Everyone wondered why I liked Math and Science. Many were shocked I got straight A’s for Math at university. It’s all because of appa. He sat down with me and thought me these subjects. He set a good foundation for me in Math and Science.
For Science, if he was not sure of a topic, he would study the book a day before and teach me. He will bring the book to work and study during his free time.
For Math, he would race me to finish off test papers. Everyone knows the answer, but during an exam, the time is the limit. So, the race taught me to solve math problems fast!
The loads of sacrifice they made and their enthusiasm in our education allowed us to reach this far.

if your paretns happen to read this, i;m sure their faces will be beaming...
parents and their unconditional love to their children :). I remember my mom used to stay up awake at 3am just to force my brother to study so that he passes his SRP!!
Your parents did a lot for you huh? And it's good you appreciate it (some will just forget, haha).
For me.. I'd never had any tuition, until Form 5. My parents were the kind who enpowered us to do what we want..
Thats so good 2 note abt ur parents. Sure for all their hardwork & sacrifices, u've come out as a star, which is the greatest gift u can give them. Well done!
So I guess the only way to honor them would be to carry on the legacy with your children. Parents will always be No.1 teachers in the life of children.
That was beautiful Geetha. A tribute to your parents for the sacrifices they have made to see that you get the best. I hope a lot of children remember this.thanks for sharing.
mom2ashley,
I owe it all to them.. they have all the right to beam. They are proud and happy with their children, I know ;P
jazzmint,
I believe every parent shows some kind of unconditional love to their children.. only as a parent ourselve, we undertsnad their sacrifices better :)
zara's mama,
They did a lot more, I know. I hope I will always appreciate them and their sacrifices.. that they still do for me :)
Same here.. my father taught me till I was 15 (for SRP). After that he couldn't help much as he studied Economics & Accounts while I went for the Science stream. That is when I had to resort to tuition :P
has to be me,
Yeap, I am happy that my brother and I turned out to be what they worked hard for..
Thanks dear :)
lian,
Yeap.. as I am honoured to have the best teachers (parents), I hope I will be able to do as good as them as a parent myself :P
starry nights,
Thanks :)
I always remember how I got to where I am today.. I don't see how I could have done it all by myself. Just wanted to tell them, "Thank you and that I will not forget them."
