Appa worked on shifts while amma worked normal office hours.
I remember.. we waited for ever time appa left for work. We would wait a few minutes and when we are sure he was not coming home for anything that he forgot, we would lock the house and leave to the playground.
We would play like we have nothing to worry. Some neighbourhood kids would join us too. We were all about the same age..
This went on for sometime, until a neighbour aunty decided to drop a bomb on us. She informed amma that we played in the playground nearly all afternoons till she came back.
BOMB!
I don't know why we did that even though we had a scheduled playtime nearly everyday.. that's when amma comes back from work at about 6 p.m. She will allow us to play till about 7 p.m.
Sometimes, we have tried to overlook our watch and go home late.. and say "Ooo, we lost track of the time. We didn't know it was 7 already!" So, amma would tell us, "When the street lights are on, it's 7! So, you should be back when the lights are on." After that, we had no excuses, when the lights were on.. we would be at home!

kids are meant to be naughty... that's where their creative thinking development is gua :P
that's the good old days hor?
Now, would you allow your kids to play on their own till 7pm outdoor? I wonder how many parents will do it.
We used to be so free, running about, playing on our own. But with the crime rate shooting up, it's different now. *sigh*
eheheheh light vandha veethuku vahranum hehehe i know that one - but u realise not many kids play outside now?
egghead,
Yeap, agree with you :)
But how was cheating my parents and playing a lot help my creativity? ;)
zara's mama,
Of course.. but when they are older (school going). Then again, being afraid of the dangers from all angles, I might be watching them from far.. like reading a book in the playground while they play or play football with them :)
Looking back at how free we were, now it seems impossible to be the same, huh?
visithra,
Yeap. Did you have a similar ruling too?
Some parents consider it dangerous, some don't have the time to bring kids out or some kids don't wanna go out.. they have better entertainment at home (TV, computer, MP3 player, playstation).
As for me, I will definitely bring my kids to the playground in the evenings or even teach them some kind of sports to keep them occupied from something other than book ;)
I know i did the same as a kid, but not able to accept it from my son.......
I get some silly excuses for nt being on time etc. etc and I kind of induce logic to him. Both of us know it is a never ending debate.
LOL! Thats how kids r supposed 2 b!
BTW done ur tag. Check it out.
chitra,
Yeah. Why huh? Are we too protective?
We never realised that our parents were thinking of our good, just like we are thinking of our children's good, isn't it? :)
Hahaha.. I guess we can't run away from the childhood tricks.. it runs in the family? :)
has to be me,
Yeap, kids are supposed to be naughty! But will I allow my sons to do the same.. I don't know :p
Thanks. Shall check it out :)
Ah!Yes...
we have all been little brats, havent we??
:)
yeah i did - say we go back late avlothan dad will scold ;p
im not sure we used to roam around on our bicycles with no adults around - i rarely see children do that - r we protecting them too much?
velu,
Kids will be kids...
Naughty & Mischiveous, that is their trademark, isn't it? ;)
visithra,
Hahaha.. same in every house :)
Same here.. But we can't blame parents too. It is becoming so unsafe to play even in the neighbourhood! :(
I pity the kids nowadays coz' there is less freedom for them to explore on their own.. *sigh*
That was the rule in our home also. when the street lights came on we had to be home. I remember sneaking out to play when my mom was not home.nice post.
starry nights,
You too? :)
Hahaha.. now I know we (thambhi and I) are not the only naughty ones ;)
Thanks.
