Thambhi's engagement

My little brother is now engaged...

With all those preparation, over days.. we were ready. On April 30th, we went over to the girls place.. a big entourage it was! We had a convoy of about 10 cars at least.

We prepared 23 trays of gifts.. engagement saree, bangles and necklace to match, the engagement ring, handbag and toiletry set, various types Indian sweets and candies, chocolates, flower basket and the list goes on to make 23 trays.

@ the saree, bangles and necklace
@ the beautiful cake of 'the bible'

We loved the cake. It just looked so elegant, especially the gold writings. By the way, I must mention that I choose the wordings for the bible cake..

"I hold you in my heart for we have shared together God's blessings"
- Phil 1:7

@ the 23 trays laid out on the floor

We walked in.. one by one.. the bride’s family was waiting for us already. As the bride’s maid, I carried the engagement saree, bangles and necklace. We laid all the trays on the living room floor, one by one..

Both parents exchanged words, accepting the engagement and the bride as our daughter-in-law, and the bridegroom as their son-in-law.

I headed up to her room to bring my sister-in law.. she received the tray of engagement saree, bangles and necklace. We went back upstairs and waited for her to get dressed.

The bride came down in the engagement saree.. me bringing her towards the stage prepared in the garden. Thambhi was already waiting there, with the pastors from the bride’s church.

After some readings and blessings by the pastors, thambhi and SIL exchanged rings.. and they were ENGAGED!

WEEE! DOOOM! BANG! There was fireworks in the background to commemorate their engagement moments..

And dinner was served.. accompanied with live band with multi-language songs. Champion even took the opportunity to dance to the songs on stage. he was the famous 2-year old around!

It was indeed a grand engagement. Now, we look forward to his wedding in August.

Happy Engagement, Thambhi and SIL!

With a lot of work over few days, we came up with elegant looking trays and decorations..

Sure, those who know us will definitely be invited.. yet to start preparation for the wedding ;)

Wow.. you guys do celebrate events in big scale and style huh??

Hey, btw, I thought girl's side have to give dowry? No longer the case?

allyfeel,
Ooh, the bride will actually be wearing a saree that her parents bought her, and will be given the saree from the bridegroom's side to change into, once the parents have exchanged vows.

Interesting isn't it ;)

allyfeel,
Yeap.. got your email. Visited your website too. Will check with hubby whether MILs will use something like that.. will get back to you as soon as possible ;)

zara's mama,
Hehehe, kind off. Or at least the milestone birthdays and other major events. :P

No, this is not dowry.. its like 'hantaran'. Its just gifts from the bridegroom's side.

Nowadays we hardly talk about dowry already.. Girls are as great as guys :)

wow...we are only talking about engagement and yet it was celebrated in such a grand way..can't wait for you to blog about the actual wedding day.

two little fellas,
Yeah, especially when the engagement is an event happening at home, compared to the wedding which is at a church and reception at the hotel. So, comparatively, more preparations at this point.

I can't wait too.. wedding preparations have started :)
